How the ChairWarmer Came to Be
It all started with the Needs Assessment. When I was thinking about what problems that happened in my house, I remembered that my dad would always yell at me whenever I would move the chair against the hardwood floor. That resulted in a scratch on the floor. So I decided to find a solution to this problem. I was going to invent the ChairWarmer. The sock for a chairs and couches.
The Basics of the Product
While working on the Problem Statement, I found out that a sock for a chair was already invented. So to make my invention a little more unique, I was going to add a rubber bottom to not only avoid scratches but also minimize movement. When I knew that I had my invention, the next challenge was to come up with a name and a slogan. For the name, I wanted something that would catch people's eyes. So I came up with the ChairWarmer. The slogan was the hardest. Not only did it have to be catchy, it had to be relating to my product. A long time later, I finally came up with "No more cold hearted scratches!".
CrowdSourcing Synthesis
Next up was to create a poll. On a scale of 1-5, 5 being awesome, 100% of the people who took the poll said it was a 4. This meant I had done most of the work, but I wasn't completely done. The response for other question were about the same, a 4. Here is the Problem Statement and Crowdsourcing.
Problem Statement
Chair Warmer ($2.68)
You are running around playing with your friends. All of a sudden, you jump on the couch and hear a loud screeching sound. Your parents come to investigate what the sound is and find a large white mark on the hardwood floor causing your parents to yell at you and forbidding you from ever jumping on the couch. That is an accident that may cost thousands of dollars. According to RealEstate.aol, 100% of real estate agents prefer hardwood floors over carpet. That causes the majority of households to risk the chance of scratching the floor. But suffer no more! I have a solution called the Chair Warmers.
The Chair Warmer is a sock for chairs that will prevent chairs from scraping hardwood floors. This invention consists of a soft cloth and a rubber tip. Half of the Chair Warmer is a soft cloth so it is easy to slip onto chairs and couches. The bottom end is rubber. The rubber is to prevent chairs from scraping the floor and will also minimize the movement of the chair/couch. My invention is necessary for houses because it will prevent house owners from paying thousands of dollars to repair their hardwood floors. The Chair Warmer is unique because it not only prevents scratches on the floor, but it will also minimize the movements of couches and chairs if pushed unintentionally. The Chair Warmer will make your thought of scratched hardwood floors disappear!
Crowdsourcing
I crowdsourced advice from 3 different people. Most of my participants believed that on a scale of 1-5, 5 being awesome, a 4. To me, this means that I could try harder to pitch my idea. When rating the name for my invention, most people seemed to say that the name for my product is okay. Price Wise, people say that it is very cheap. However, my slogan was not that good. My slogan was rated a 33% by everybody. This means that my slogan is not catchy enough. Based on their advice, I will try harder to pitch my idea.
